Attempted to assault woman who was returning home after work; 19-year-old arrested

ATTINGAL: A 19-year-old has been arrested for allegedly attempting to assault a woman, who was returning home after work. The arrested youth has been identified as Azharuddin (19), a native of Thencherikonam in Alamcode. The incident occurred at around 7.30 pm on December 16. The woman was returning after work when the youth followed her and harassed her in a deserted area.

The youth fled the area soon after the incident. Following this, the woman lodged a complaint with the police. As per the instructions of Attingal DySP, a special squad was formed under the leadership of Attingal SHO Ajayan J to conduct the investigation. The police had examined over 50 CCTV footage collected from places near the scene.

The investigation focused on more than 15 vehicles and around 10 persons spotted under suspicious circumstances. The accused was later nabbed by a team comprising SI Jishnu MS, SI Sithara Mohan, SCPO Shajeer, CPOs Deepu Krishnan, Ajinraj and Ananthu. The accused, who was presented in court, has been remanded.
