KAZHAKOOTAM: The woman (techie) has identified the accused in the case of sexually abusing her in her hostel room. The arrested is Benjamin of Madurai. After abusing her, he went to Attingal and from there fled to Madurai.
He told police that he abused her when he came for robbery and was his first visit to Kerala. He said that he liked Kerala and had plans to visit again.
Police said Benjamin is a dangerous man. He has raped many women in Tamil Nadu. He has admitted that he mostly rapes women living on the streets. The police caught him when he was trying to abuse another woman.
The accused thought that he would never be caught. He had robbed three houses before reaching the hostel in Kazhakootam. He entered the hostel room where the woman was staying in Kazhakoottam at 2 am last Friday and raped her. The accused, a truck driver, entered the hostel when he was returning after unloading his goods.
He first went upstairs and stole the headphones. When he came downstairs, he saw the door of the woman's room lying open. He entered, threatened and abused her at knifepoint.
The woman filed a complaint with the Kazhakootam police at 7 am on Friday. Since there was no CCTV camera in the hostel, the police did not get any information about the accused. A special team led by Kazhakootam Assistant Commissioner P Anil Kumar, comprising inspectors from Kazhakoottam, Thumba and Peroorkada stations and the City DANSAF team, was formed to investigate.
It was a great relief for the police that the accused was identified within 24 hours of the incident and arresting him in two days. The accused was brought to Kazhakoottam at 7:30 pm on Sunday.
