Body wrapped in Colocasia leaf and abandoned; Further investigation into death of newborn baby in Pathanamthitta

PATHANAMTHITTA: The Elavumthitta police are all set to intensify the investigation into the incident in which a newborn baby was found dead in Mezhuveli. The police believe that the baby's death as a murder. Police said more information will be known only after the postmortem report is released. The baby's postmortem will be held today at Konni Medical College Hospital.


The 21-year-old woman gave birth to a baby Tuesday morning at around 4 am. The woman had hidden the fact that she was pregnant from her family. This came to light when the woman went to the Chengannur hospital for a check-up due to bleeding. The hospital authorities immediately informed the police. The baby's body was found when the police reached the spot and searched it.


The woman had said that she covered the baby's mouth to prevent it from crying and wrapped it in the leaf of Colocasia and dumped it in the yard of a neighboring house immediately after giving birth at home. The woman said that she became pregnant from her lover. The police will make changes in the FIR based on the information provided by the doctors after postmortem. The police informed that they will question the woman's relatives and lover.
