ALAPPUZHA: Some charred body parts were found in the premises of a house in Cherthala and it have been confirmed as as human remains. The remains were found in the compound of a real estate agent during the investigation into the case of two women going missing under mysterious circumstances. The remains were found in the compound of Sebastian (65) in Chengumtharaveetil, Pallipuram, 9th ward, Cherthala during an investigation conducted by the Kottayam Crime Branch. The police have assessed that the dead is Jaynamma of Ettumanoor in Kottayam. Jaynamma's family will provide samples for DNA testing today for confirmation.
Sebastian was under the shadow of suspicion of the crime branch in the missing incidents of Bindu Padmanabhan (47) of Alungal, Kadakarapally, Cherthala, and Jaynamma. The crime branch had informed that only a scientific examination of the remains found would be able to identify whether it belonged to any of the missing women.
A team led by Kottayam Crime Branch SP Girish P Sarathi had started an inspection of Sebastian's house premises since Monday morning. The remains were found late afternoon. With this, the house and the surroundings were sealed off by the police. The inspection was based on the information received from Sebastian.
A large police team, including a scientific examination team and fingerprint experts, reached the spot and the inspection continued late into the night. A team led by Alappuzha Crime Branch SP Shoukath Ali, who is investigating the missing case of Bindu Padmanabhan, also reached the spot.
Praveen, brother of Bindu Padmanabhan filed a missing complaint with the police on September 17 in 2017 that she had gone missing from Alungal Padma Nivas in Kadakkarappally since 2002. The complaint alleged that Sebastian was behind the incident. During the police investigation, Sebastian was named as the first accused and a case was registered. The case was later handed over to the crime branch.
Jaynamma of Ettumannur in Kottayam went missing on December 23, 2024. On the 28th, her brother Savio Mani and later her husband Appachan filed a complaint with the police. During the police investigation, the tower location of her phone was last found in Pallipuram.
