MALAPPURAM: Muhammed Roshan, the accused in the case of threatening to circulate fake pictures of Muslim League President Panakkad Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal and insulting him on social media, has been arrested. He had fled to Uttar Pradesh soon after the incident. The Perinthalmanna police arrested him from Angadipuram railway station after bringing him back to the hometown.
He had shared defamatory posts against Sadiq Ali Shihab Thangal on Facebook a few days ago. On March 21, he circulated fake pictures using AI via a Facebook account Shan Shanu. He later threatened showing more visuals and pictures. He demanded Rs 15 crore to not release the pictures. The complaint says that he threatened to kill him if revealed the incident and had also threatened his family.
He started threatening him from January 31. The police registered a case based on the complaint filed by his relative Mueen Ali Shihab Thangal, son of Hyder Ali Shihab Thangal. The complaint filed with the Malappuram SP was handed over to the Perinthalmanna police for investigation.
The accused was on the run after the case was registered. The police had received information that he was in Uttar Pradesh and had warned that strict action would be taken if he did not surrender. Following this, Roshan, who returned home, was taken into custody by the police from the railway station.
The accused is being questioned in detail at the Perinthalmanna police station. The police are investigating whether anyone else is involved in the crime and whether anyone helped him to escape.
