Man arrested for allegedly beating up lover with wooden plank

THRIKKAKARA: A woman hit with a wooden plank during a verbal argument with her lover was admitted to the hospital with serious injuries to her internal organs. Thrikakkara police arrested her boyfriend Gopakumar (20) of Kalathiparambu House in Thrissur's Mala in connection with incident. The police said that the man beat her up for questioning his relationship with another girl.

The accused first beat her at the restaurant, where both work, yesterday at 1 am. The restaurateurs stopped the fight, and later at 3:30 in the evening, he took the woman from the hostel to Thaikkavu in Unichira and beat her again. After beating the woman on the head, chest and legs with a plank and injuring her, the woman was dragged to the road. The locals, on seeing this, informed the police. The woman is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kochi.


The two left their native place after falling in love and were working at different places in Ernakulam for six months. They started working at a restaurant in Unichira six days ago. The accused was apprehended by a team consisting of Thrikkakara Inspector R Shabu, SI Rafeeq, ASI Sivakumar, Aji Anish and woman police officer Sumi.
