THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Mother commits suicide after attempting to kill daughter in Neyyattinkara. The incident took place this morning in Neyyattinkara, Thiruvananthapuram. Leela (77), a native of Arakunn, died. After trying to kill her daughter Bindu by slitting her throat, Leela committed suicide. Bindu is seriously injured and has been admitted to Neyyattinkara Hospital.

Leela committed suicide by burning kerosene. According to the police, the family was facing financial problems. Leela's husband and Bindu's husband had died earlier. One of Leela's sons had died in an accident months ago. Another son lives with relatives.

The police have reached the spot and are taking further action. Forensic experts have also reached the spot. After the inquest, the body will be taken for post-mortem. The police said that no further information is available about the incident.

Young man sets fire to house while mother is inside

While his mother was inside, a mentally challenged youth locked the house from inside and set it on fire. The incident happened in Thiruvananthapuram. Both escaped unhurt. The windows and tiles of the house were broken in the fire. Most of the household goods were destroyed. He and his mother Omana (67) were the only ones in the house.

Binu (42) from Kallingal house set the house on fire. He was mentally challenged and became more violent under the influence of alcohol. The incident happened at 10 am yesterday.

He went out in the morning and returned after buying liquor. Then he became violent and set the house on fire after getting drunk. Seeing the fire and smoke rising, the residents came and pushed open the door and rescued both of them. The fire was extinguished by pouring water on it.

Locals say that he is a regular alcoholic who harasses Omana and smashes bulbs and windows of neighboring houses. Local residents have filed a police complaint against him.

Omana said that the police came to arrest Binu after learning about the incident, but her son is mentally ill and is under treatment. Then the police caught Binu with the help of locals and admitted him to Peroorkada mental hospital.
