ALAPPUZHA: A major breakthrough in the murder of a 62-year-old woman who lived alone in Thottappally. With the arrest of the real accused couple, it became clear that the 60-year-old Abubakar, who was arrested the other day, was not the one who committed the crime. Zainulabdeen (Kochumon, 44), a native of Pallana and a tenant in Karunagappally, and his wife Anisha (38) were taken into custody by a team led by Ambalapuzha DySP KN Rajesh from their house in the early hours of the morning. Anisha is Zainulabdeen's third wife. The breakthrough came when the stolen mobile phone of the old woman was recovered from the couple.
Zainulabdeen had previously rented a house near the old woman's house. He thought that it would be easy to steal from her since she lived alone. On the night of the 16th, Zainulabdeen and his wife Anisha went to steal from the woman's house. Both of them were drunk. They kicked open the door and entered, but did not find any gold or valuables. They only took the phone. When the old woman saw them, Zainulabdeen strangled her to death. The murder came to light on the 17th. The switched-off phone was found operational at the Karunagappally Tower location on Friday. The accused were subsequently arrested.
Abubakar not charged with murder
The police have confirmed that Abubakar (68), a native of Ambanakulangara, who was arrested the other day, has no connection with the murder. Abubakar, who had a long-term relationship with the woman, was at her house on the day of the incident, before the murder. The doctor who conducted the postmortem said that she had been physically assaulted. Abubakar, who thought that the elderly woman, who was suffering from severe asthma, died while having physical intercourse with him, confessed to the crime during interrogation. The murder charge against Abubakar will be dropped. However, the police said that the rape charge will remain.
