NEDUMBASSERY: The Angamaly Judicial Magistrate Court has remanded for 14 days the Nedumbassery Airport CISF SI Vinayakumar Das (31) and Constable Mohan Kumar (28), who were arrested in the case of killing a youth by hitting him with a car. Both have been shifted to Aluva Sub Jail.
Ivin Jijo (24), son of Angamaly native Jijo James, was brutally murdered at 10 pm on Wednesday. The arrest came when the main accused, Vinayakumar, who was beaten up by the locals, was discharged from Kalamassery Medical College Hospital at 2:30 am yesterday.
Nedumbassery CI Sabuji said that the case report has been handed over to the commandant of the CISF Nedumbassery unit.
The police remand report states that Ivin was dragged under the car driven by CISF SI Vinayakumar Das for 37 meters. The car was driven for about 700 meters with Ivin on the bonnet. Despite knowing that there would be a loss of life, Vinayakumar still drove the car.
CISF begins investigation
The CISF Airport South Zone (Chennai) DIG R. Ponni has initiated an internal investigation into the incident. Yesterday, a team led by Ponni reached Nedumbassery and sought information from the unit commandant and others. The FIR was also examined. It is indicated that strong action will be taken against the accused.
Farewell to Ivin
Locals bid farewell to Ivin Jijo, who was hit and killed by CISF personnel. After the post-death rites led by Faridabad Bishop Jose Puthenmoottil, Ivin was buried at the St. Augustine Church Cemetery in Thuravoor.
