Sexually harassed college student inside private bus; 48-year-old man arrested in Malappuram

MALAPPURAM: Police have arrested the man who sexually harassed a college student on a private bus operating on the Valanchery–Tirur route. The arrested person is Zakir (48), a native of Thrikkanapuram, Kuttippuram, who runs a private establishment in Kavumpuram.

The girl, who boarded the bus at Kadungathukundu, was allegedly harassed by Zakir after he got in at Puthanathani. Even though the student informed the conductor about the harassment, the accused was not handed over to the police and was instead allowed to get off at Kavumpuram. Later, Valanchery police seized the bus. A case has also been registered against the bus conductor for helping the accused escape.

The arrest was carried out by a team led by Special Branch DySP Basheer, Tanur DySP Pramod, and Valanchery CI Basheer C. Chirakkal, along with SI Ajith and SCPOs Harris, Nithin, and CPO Nitheesh.
