Son beats mother to death; neighbours did not check as screams and cries were regular

ALAPPUZHA: Mother beaten to death by son in Mavelikkara. The deceased is Kanakamma Somarajan (69), a native of Kallumala Puduchira. The police took her only son Krishnadas (39) into custody. It is reported that there were constant problems between the mother and son. Krishnadas' wife had left him.

Krishnadas used to come drunk and demand money from his mother. He used to beat her when she did not pay him. Police say that yesterday, as usual, Krishnadas came drunk and demanded money from Kanakamma and then beat her. The locals did not intervene as this was a regular occurrence. Krishnadas himself told the locals that his mother was not moving this morning and that he had beaten her. When the police arrived and inspected, they found Kanakamma dead. The police said that Kanakamma died after being beaten by her son.
