THRISSUR: Revenue Minister K Rajan informed that a deliberate homicide case has been registered against the lorry driver and the cleaner in connection with the death of five people in Nattika. A report on the accident will soon be submitted to the government. The minister also stated that the district collector has been tasked with coordinating the procedures.
There was a serious lapse from the side of the one who was on the driver’s seat. The police report said the two stopped the vehicle in Mahe, bought alcohol and consumed it. A deliberate homicide case has been registered. It has been directed to take strict action against the guilty. The minister said the government will take steps to carry the bodies to their respective homes after postmortem.
Meantime, the condition of two of the three seriously injured in the accident and undergoing treatment is critical. Jayavardhan, Vijay and Chitra are undergoing treatment. The district administration has directed the medical college to provide them with all necessary medical facilities. The accident occurred at around 3 am this morning on the flyover near J K Theatre at Nattika in Thrissur. The lorry carrying timber lost control and ran over the sleeping people.
The dead have been identified as Kaliyappan (50), Jeevan (4), Nagamma (39) and Bengazhi (20). One of them is yet to be identified. The police have received information that they are natives of Chemmanamthode, Govindapuram in Palakkad.
Police said the lorry was driven by the cleaner who was drunk. He did not have a license. Lorry driver Jose and cleaner Alex (33) of Alakode in Kannur have been arrested in the incident.
