THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Two individuals, including a CPI local leader, have been arrested with MDMA. The arrested persons are Krishnachandran (30), a member of the CPI Palayam local committee, and Ali Mohammed (25). The excise team seized 4.55 grams of MDMA from Krishnachandran and 5 grams from Ali Mohammed.

The arrests were made based on a tip-off received by the Excise Intelligence Wing. A team led by Thiruvananthapuram Circle Inspector M. Rejilal and Excise Inspector Sajith Kumar conducted the operation. Krishnachandran was apprehended around 8:30 PM on Saturday near his rented house in Vazhuthacaud. During the search, MDMA was recovered. According to excise officials, he had brought MDMA into the city several times for both personal use and sale.

Ali Mohammed, who is also an accused in a POCSO case, was arrested from the Kannettumukku area. Their motorcycles and mobile phones were also seized. CI M. Rejilal stated that an investigation is underway to trace the suppliers who delivered the drugs to the accused. Both men have been remanded.

Following the incident, CPI Mandalam Secretary T.S. Binukumar announced that Krishnachandran has been expelled from the party. He clarified that Krishnachandran was not entrusted with any organisational responsibilities and dismissed reports suggesting otherwise as baseless.
