Two West Bengal men arrested with 27 kg cannabis in Ernakulam

KALADY: Two migrant workers from another state were arrested with around 27 kg of cannabis. The arrested men have been identified as Sentu Sarkar and Inamul Haque, natives of Murshidabad in West Bengal. They were taken into custody by the Ayyampuzha police. The accused had arrived in Ernakulam by train from Odisha. They were caught near the Olive Mount area in Ayyampuzha while travelling in an autorickshaw from there.

Based on a tip-off, the police had been monitoring them for the past few days. According to officials, they used to buy cannabis from Odisha at a rate of Rs 3,000 per kg and sell it for around Rs 25,000 per kg before returning. The accused are reportedly residents of the India-Bangladesh border area. Police are also investigating those involved in supplying the cannabis. The investigation team included Inspector Prince Joseph and Sub-Inspectors Jayachandran, K.S. Vinod, P.O. Sebi, along with senior civil police officers K.G. Prasad and K.S. Sumeesh.
