MALAPPURAM: The death of a Bihar native in Vengara in Malappuram district turned out to be a murder. Sanjit Paswan (33), son of Ramnath Paswan, hailing from Bihar's Vaishali district, was killed last month. Poonam Devi (30), a native of Vaishali and Paswan's wife, was arrested on charges of murder.

The murder took place on the night of January 31 at PK Quarters, Yaram Padi in Kottakkal Road. The woman had said that her husband died following a stomach pain. At the end of the investigation, it became clear that the wife herself killed him by tying a sari around his neck. Following the death of Sanjit Paswan, the Vengara police registered a case of unnatural death and shifted the body to Tirurangadi taluk hospital. Post-mortem revealed that Paswan's face and forehead were bruised and his neck was fractured. Following this, the cops questioned Poonam Devi.

Poonam Devi was in love with a man who is married and has children. Knowing this, Sanjit Paswan came to Vengara two months ago with his five-year-old son Sachin Kumar. But Poonam Devi continued her relationship with this man using a secret phone. When Sanjit Paswan came to know about this, Poonam decided to get rid of him.

On the night of January 31, the accused tied Sanjith's hand while he was sleeping, and dragged him from the bed. After that, the accused strangled her husband using a saree and ensured his death. Then she untied the noose on his neck and hand and informed the people in the adjacent room that her husband is not feeling well. They took the body to the hospital.
