MALAPPURAM: Samastha has taken a strong stand against considering women candidates of the Muslim League in general seats. Samastha Mushavara member Umar Faizi Mukkam clarified that Samastha is against women contesting in general seats and when there are many capable men, they should be considered.

Umar Faizi Mukkam said that when the League leaders asked our opinion regarding seat allocation in the past, we had given a clear answer then. Since it is legally mandatory, women can contest in reserved seats. Samastha's stand is that women should not be allowed here. He also added that such changes at present are against Samastha’s fatwa.

He also reminded that it is better for Muslim League to be with Samastha. Most Muslims in Kerala are believers of Samastha. He warned that taking stands that are contrary to their ideals is not befitting a Muslim organization. He responded that Muslim organizations have received due consideration during the last ten years of LDF rule and that they have no complaints about the present administration.
