The child was brought to the medical college the other day. Samples were taken on Friday. Currently, ten people are being treated for amoebic meningoencephalitis at Kozhikode Medical College. One person is also being treated in a private hospital. Reports say that none of them is in a critical condition.
Thrissur Chavakkad native Raheem (59), who was undergoing treatment at the Kozhikode Medical College, died of the disease the other day.
Raheem, who was found lying unconscious in Kozhikode, was taken to a private hospital by the locals. He was later shifted to the Kozhikode Medical College. The disease was confirmed following tests conducted in the Critical Care Unit. He passed away last evening. Since Raheem was living alone, the exact source of the infection is unclear.
Sashi, a native of Kottayam who worked with Raheem, was also found dead at his residence. It is reported that Sashi also had similar symptoms. Both worked at a hotel in Panniyankara, Kozhikode. In this situation, the corporation has ordered the hotel to be closed.
It is not clear where Raheem contracted the disease. Health department officials collected samples of water from the well in the house where Raheem and Sashi lived. They have also collected samples of water from the hotel.
