609 people on contact list, five in isolation; Palakkad put on high alert

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Minister Veena George confirmed that 112 people were included in the contact list of the second person, who tested positive for Nipah in Palakkad. Information, including CCTV visuals and a route map, was prepared. Field-level activities and fever surveillance were intensified in the area after declaring the place a containment zone. An expert team from the Health Department visited the site and took further steps.

There are a total of 609 people in the Nipah contact list in various districts. Among these, 112 people are from the contact list of the second person who tested positive for Nipah in Palakkad. 207 in Malappuram district, 286 in Palakkad, 114 in Kozhikode and two in Ernakulam are in the contact list. Eight people are in ICU treatment in Malappuram. So far, 72 samples have tested negative in the Malappuram district. Five people are under treatment in isolation in Palakkad. A total of 38 people in the state are in the highest risk category, and 133 are under observation in the high-risk category.

A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Minister Veena George. Additional Chief Secretary of the Health Department, NHM State Mission Director, Director of the Health Department, Director of the Medical Education Department, Additional Directors, District Collectors, District Medical Officers, Police Officers and various department officials attended the meeting.
