Actor Jayaram to be Mela Pramani at Attukal festival

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Actor and Padmasree Jayaram will lead the orchestra as the Mela Pramani in front of the divine Attukal temple in Thiruvananthapuram for this year’s festival.

Famed and revered percussionists will line up for the event in front of the temple. Actor Jayaram, a known Chenda player, will lead the whole posse of artists. Many years ago, Jayaram performed chenda in front of the temple, and now, for the first time, the actor will be leading the whole orchestra.

This year's Pongal festival starts on March 5. The cultural events will start from the first day, to be inaugurated by cine star Namitha Pramod. The world-famous Attukal Pongala will take place on March 13.
