THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A youngster drowned in Karamana River adjacent to Sree Aayiravalli Thampuran Para Temple in Vattiyoorkavu on Sunday. The victim was identified as Rahul (27), a supervisor at Kuravankonam Home Care Supermarket, son of Baiju and the late Prasanna, resident of ‘Puthuval Puthenveetil’ near Kesavadasapuram MG College.

Since it was Easter, Rahul went to take a dip in the river here at 4.30 pm on Sunday with his brother Sarath and friends Shine and Ananthu.

Since people used to fish in this area, there were broken nets and other things at the bottom. Rahul’s foot got caught in the net, which invited disaster. The army personnel and the scuba team conducted a joint search and recovered the body at around 5.30 am and handed it over to the Vattiyoorkavu police.

Grade Station Officer Shaji Khan, Grade Assistant Station Officer Subhash, and Senior Fire and Rescue Officer Shafi led the search. Rahul leaves behind his wife Jini and children Rithika and Rishika.
