THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Assembly subject committee meeting held on Thursday recommended to the government that the village officers should be allowed official vehicles considering the workload.
Earlier, a recommendation was made to the government and the planning board with the same demand, but the file was returned due to the financial situation.
The recommendation is to provide one electric car for three village offices, that is, the vehicle will be given two days a week to a village officer.
Officers up to Tehsildar have official vehicles. Though the compensatory allowance to the village officers was increased from Rs 130 to Rs 1500 during the last salary revision, it is insufficient. The necessity of vehicles became evident when the process of settling the pending property type conversion applications was started. For the special settlement scheme for property type conversion, 350 vehicles were hired for six months.
There are 1666 village offices in the state.
