Body of missing Joy found in canal behind Chitra Home in Thakaraparambu

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The body of the missing Joy (42), a sanitation worker who went missing while cleaning the Amayizhanjan Canal, has been found. His body was found in the canal behind the Chitra Home in Thakaraparambu. Top officials reached the spot and confirmed the body as that of Joy. The body was found in the place where water flows from the railway. The body was found floating in the canal after 46 hours.

The body found in a decomposed state has been taken to the medical college. The body was found by the workers who came to clean the canal. A search by the navy had started at the Amayizhanjan Canal. After this, the body was found one kilometre away from the place he went missing. Joy went missing while removing the garbage from the Amayizhanjan Canal that flows underneath the Thampanoor Central Railway Station. Joy is the son of Neshamani and Mary of Marayamuttam Malancheruvu House.

Joy was a sanitation worker sent by the railway contractor. Though a search was conducted for 46 hours, he could not be found. He went missing Saturday morning at 11.30. A search was started using a robot named Bandicoot of the Genrobotics company at 8 pm that night. It continued at night. The cause of the accident was the flow of water in the canal following heavy rain. This is a canal flowing through the railway compound near the railway parcel office opposite the Thampanoor Indian Coffee House. They reached here after cleaning the part of the canal near the Power House Road around 8 am.

Joy was hired by a private agency contracted by railways to clean the canal. Supervisor Kumar seeing the water flowing strongly while scooping the plastic waste in sacks, asked him to return. Meanwhile, due to the force of the current, Joy tripped and fell into the tunnel. Kumar threw the rope but Joy could not catch it. Joy was the only one in the canal when the incident happened. Migrant workers Thapandas and Bishwajit Mandal, who were with him, were returning after having food.
