Car falls into canal in Alappuzha; 32-year-old dies, two people manage to escape

ALAPPUZHA: A youth met with a tragic death after a car fell into a canal in Alappuzha. The deceased has been identified as Thathampally native Bijoy Antony (32). The accident occurred at around 2 am today. There were three people in the car and two of them managed to escape.

Bijoy and his friends were travelling from the Punnamada region to Alappuzha in a Maruti Swift car when the car lost control at a curve near the Rajiv Boat Jetty in Alappuzha and plunged into the water. Bijoy's friends managed to escape from the car and alerted the locals and the fire force. The fire force soon arrived at the scene and rescued Bijoy from the vehicle. However, he could not be saved despite being rushed to the Alappuzha General Hospital. Reports suggest that the accident happened while they were returning after a birthday celebration.
