Car rams into MGNREGA workers near Juma Masjid; one dies tragically

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A speeding car ran over an MGNREGA worker and killed her. The accident took place near Palachira Juma Masjid in Varkala, Thiruvananthapuram. The deceased is Palachira native Shantha (65) of Baiju Bhavan.

The incident took place this evening. Shantha was resting with her colleagues after finishing work. Meanwhile, a speeding car coming from the wrong direction hit Shantha and knocked her down. Shantha was immediately taken to Paripally Medical College Hospital, but her life could not be saved. The body will be handed over to her relatives after legal procedures including a postmortem.

No one else was injured as they were sitting a little further away to rest after work. The car was driven by Sudeshan (63), a native of Kilikollur.
