ALAPPUZHA: A speeding car lost control and rammed into two female pedestrians, resulting in the death of one woman and leaving the other seriously injured. The deceased has been identified as Sudhakshina (55), wife of auto driver Rajeev from Kalappura, Kizhakkemangalam, Alappuzha. The injured woman, Bindu (50), wife of the late Vinod from Pulickal house in Kalappura, has been admitted to a private hospital in Ernakulam with serious injuries.

The accident occurred around 8:40 AM yesterday on the Alappuzha bypass road, south of the old toll gate at Kommady. The car involved in the accident was travelling from Nedumbassery Airport toward Kayamkulam. A woman who had returned home from abroad on vacation and a driver from Kayamkulam were reportedly in the vehicle. It is suspected that the vehicle’s number plate was removed shortly after the incident.

Sudhakshina, an employee at Gokul Coir Company, was on her way to work when the speeding car veered off course and struck her. Bindu was also on her way to work at the panchayat office. Although both of them were immediately rushed to a nearby private hospital, Sudhakshina's life could not be saved. Sudhakshina is survived by her children, Rahul and Priyanka, and children-in-law, Arjun and Archana. The funeral was held yesterday.
