Caution should be exercised until Sunday; possibility of very heavy rain, yellow alert in seven districts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Central Meteorological Department has predicted that there is a possibility of heavy rain with thunderstorms in isolated places in Kerala till April 6. A yellow alert has been issued in seven districts today. The yellow alert is in Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam and Thrissur districts today.

A yellow alert has been issued in four districts of Idukki, Palakkad, Malappuram and Wayanad tomorrow and in Malappuram and Wayanad districts on Sunday. The possibility of isolated heavy rain is predicted. Heavy rain means a situation where 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain will fall in 24 hours.

Moreover, an orange alert has been issued in Kollam, Alappuzha and Kottayam districts for the next three hours. IMD has informed that there is a possibility of moderate rain with thunderstorms and strong winds with a speed of up to 40 kmph in isolated places in these districts.

IMD has informed that the rains in Kerala from April 4 to 6 are due to the combination of winds coming from the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal, as a cyclonic circulation is prevailing over southern Tamil Nadu and the southern Andaman Sea.
