THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In a letter to External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Congress Working Committee member Ramesh Chennithala urged the central government to do everything possible for the safety of Malayalees in the Gulf in the wake of the tensions there. In his letter, he requested that the government take all possible measures to protect the large number of Malayalees working in Gulf countries such as the UAE, Kuwait, Iran, Bahrain, Oman, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia. He pointed that the present war-like situation has created significant anxiety and fear among them. The phone messages he received from expatriates indicate deep concern about their safety.

Chennithala said that their family back home is going through severe mental stress. Immediate steps are needed to provide a sense of security and reassurance to the Malayalees in the Gulf region.

Chennithala further demanded that special arrangements be made at all Indian embassies in these countries to ensure timely assistance, guidance, and support for those in need.

He also urged the Central Government to take special measures to evacuate and safely repatriate those stranded, especially in situations where international airlines are hesitant to operate services.
