ALAPPUZHA: Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan has called for a broad united front against Sangh Parivar politics to protect secularism and federalism in the country. He was inaugurating a seminar on “The Future of Secularism and Federalism” organised as part of the CPI state conference in Alappuzha.

The Chief Minister said the Left must provide effective leadership against the Sangh Parivar’s attempts to distort history, culture, and spread saffronisation. He alleged that the BJP is working to weaken federalism and that viewing the nation as a single marketplace is part of the RSS agenda.

According to him, the RSS tried to replace the Constitution with the Manusmriti. The Centre, he said, is denying Kerala its rightful share of tax revenue by interfering with state taxes. “The BJP wants a presidential system. By shifting taxes to GST and making cess collections universal, they have destroyed states’ financial powers. Yet, despite these challenges, Kerala has carried out development projects worth Rs 90,000 crore through KIIFB,” he added.

He also warned that minority communalism would only aid majority communalism, and both must be opposed. Pointing to the BJP’s target of Kerala, he said the party has already announced plans to contest local body elections in 25 per cent of seats and expand its presence in the Assembly. “Every vote for the BJP is a vote against Kerala’s identity. With the judiciary also being brought under control, the BJP and the Centre are pushing the country into a dangerous situation,” the Chief Minister said. CPI state secretary Binoy Viswam moderated the session.

Prakash Raj warns of divisive politics
Actor Prakash Raj, delivering the keynote address, said dividing people on the basis of language, religion, or ideology to hold on to power is harmful to a democratic society. He accused the Sangh Parivar of trying to saffronize secular festivals like Onam and Christmas. “The struggle against such moves must continue,” he said.

AIYF state secretary T.T. Jismon delivered the vote of thanks.
