KANNUR: A Class 8 student was found dead in his bedroom on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Ajulraj, a student of Mary Matha School in Pilathara, Kannur. Police said that Ajulraj committed suicide after being upset over low marks in a school exam.

The 12-year-old boy was the son of Pilathara native Rajesh and Vijin. According to his parents, he had been upset about scoring low marks and had spoken about it at home. Pariyaram police have registered a case of unnatural death.

Student suicides have been on the rise in recent weeks. Recently, a Plus One student from Neyyattinkara, identified as Prathibha from Ooruttukala, died by suicide. Preliminary reports indicate that she may have taken the step because she was unhappy with the school. However, her family stated that she had joined the school willingly, and teachers clarified that she was neither isolated nor mistreated.
