THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Congress high command has formed a 17-member core committee to make the party activities in Kerala more effective. AICC General Secretary Deepa Dasmunsi, who is in charge of Kerala, will serve as the committee’s convener.

The committee includes the KPCC president, three working presidents, the Opposition Leader, Congress Working Committee members from Kerala, former KPCC presidents, and former Mahila Congress state president Shanimol Usman. Senior leader AK Antony has also been included, reflecting the importance the high command places on the panel.

With this, the significance of the 39-member Political Affairs Committee is expected to diminish. The new core committee will coordinate election preparations, organise campaign activities for the upcoming local body and assembly elections, and strengthen organisational work.

The committee has been instructed to meet once a week to discuss and decide on key organisational matters.

Core committee members:
Sunny Joseph, VD Satheesan, AK Antony, KC Venugopal, Ramesh Chennithala, Shashi Tharoor, K Sudhakaran, Kodikunnil Suresh, Adoor Prakash, K Muraleedharan, VM Sudheeran, MM Hassan, Mullappally Ramachandran, AP Anil Kumar, PC Vishnunath, Shafi Parambil, and Shanimol Usman.
