KANNUR: The Thalassery Additional Sessions Court has acquitted 14 accused including Kodi Suni in the New Mahe double murder case. Fourteen including Kodi Suni and Muhammed Shafi, accused in the murder case of RMP founder leader T P Chandrasekharan, were acquitted in the double murder case of RSS activists Vijith and Shinoj. Two accused had died during trial. The accused were acquitted as the prosecution was not able to prove the offence imposed on the accused.
Public Prosecutor Premarajan appeared for the prosecution. Advocates C K Sreedharan and Viswan appeared for the accused. The charge sheet was filed by the investigating officer Shaukath. The trial of the case began last January.
The accused stopped and hacked Vijith and Shinoj in Mahe after hurling a bomb. The youths killed had links with some violent attacks on the CPM men in the area. A special prosecutor was appointed in the case after Vijith's mother Rajamma approached the high court. CCTV visuals of Kodi Suni consuming liquor along with fellow prisoners in the parking lot of the hotel while brought from jail for the trial, had stoked a controversy.
