Cyclone forming over Bay of Bengal; Yellow alert for four districts, including Ernakulam

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department predicted chances of heavy rain in the state today. Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Kasaragod districts are placed under yellow alert on Tuesday. Heavy rain means that there is a possibility of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain in 24 hours.

Isolated rain will possibly lash across the state during the next three hours. A cyclonic circulation is present over the central Bay of Bengal. It is likely to intensify into a depression over the west-central Bay of Bengal and the northwest Bay of Bengal by tomorrow. It is likely to intensify again during the next 48 hours.

In this situation, the Meteorological Department announced a possibility of light/medium rain in Kerala for the next seven days. There is a possibility of isolated thunderstorms today and tomorrow. A yellow alert was issued for Kannur and Kasaragod districts tomorrow. Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department did not impose any restrictions on fishing along the Kerala-Karnataka-Lakshadweep coasts.
