Death of wife who attempted suicide; husband hangs himself from x-ray machine in hospital

PARAVUR: The husband hanged himself from the x-ray machine in the hospital after learning that his wife, who tried to commit suicide due to family quarrel, died while undergoing treatment. The deceased are Maria Rose (21) and her husband Emmanuel (29). Emmanuel is the son of Alangad Kongorppilly natives George and Mary. Emmanuel and Maria have a one-and-a-half-year-old son named Adam and a 28-day-old baby. The child's twenty-eighth-day ceremony was supposed to take place yesterday.

They settled in Kongorppilly two years ago. After both of them went out on Saturday, Emmanuel had an argument with a neighbour. There was a fight between Emmanuel and Maria about this. The police said that even when they went out, there was a verbal argument between the two. On reaching home, Maria went into her room at 10 pm, closed the door and hanged on the rope tied to the baby's cradle.

Emmanuel and his relatives rushed Maria to a private hospital in Manjummel but she died around 11.30 am. On hearing this, Emmanuel entered the X-ray room of the hospital at one o'clock in the night and committed suicide by hanging himself from the rod on the side of the machine. Emmanuel hanged himself from the mundu which was in the room. There were no employees in the room then. The employee found Emmanuel dead when she returned to the X-ray room.

Emmanuel was an interior design worker. The dead bodies were shifted to Ernakulam Medical College Mortuary. After the post-mortem, the cremation will take place today at Kongorppilly St Anthony's Church Cemetery.
