THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Beverages employees of the state have announced a strike as a protest against the delay in the implementation of salary reforms at the official level. The strike has been announced on June 30 with the participation of CITU, AITUC and INTUC unions. The decision was taken at a meeting of various trade unions in the capital.

The Joint Trade Union Coordination has argued that despite the government taking a favourable stand for the 11th salary revision in the public sector and KSBC, there has been apathy at the official level. The KSBC board had informed the government in June 2021 that it had approved the salary hike file. However, KSBC said in a statement that the government had informed that the expert committee report related to salary revision in public sector organizations should be approved. The unions also said that by delaying the action, the employees were forced into staging a strike.

Meanwhile, on June 13, the organizations will give notice for the strike. Ahead of the strike, a march and dharna will be held to the Joint Trade Union Coordination Secretariat on June 20.
