BEIRUT: A Lebanese journalist identified as Amal Khalil (43) was killed in an Israeli airstrike in southern Lebanon. The death was confirmed by a Lebanese military spokesman and the Al-Akhbar newspaper where Amal worked. Freelance photographer Zeinab Faraj, who was with Amal, was injured in the attack.
Amal and Zeinab were reporting in the village of Al-Tiri in southern Lebanon when the Israeli attack occurred. They ran to a nearby house, but an Israeli missile attack killed Amal Khalil shortly after. Amal, who was trapped in the rubble of a building, was taken out hours later. Zeinab, who suffered a head injury, was taken to a nearby hospital by Lebanese rescue workers. The death toll from Wednesday's Israeli attack rose to five.
