KOCHI: Diplomatic gold smuggling case accused Sandeep Nair suffered from a heart attack and is currently hospitalised. The sudden health scare came just a day after Sandeep was acquitted by the court in a gold smuggling case. After hearing the verdict, Sandeep moved to Ernakulam North Railway Station with his wife and relative to travel to Thiruvananthapuram when he felt pain in his chest. He was then taken to Ernakulam Lisie Hospital. Examination revealed that he had four blocks. An angiogram was done. Sandeep is currently in the intensive care unit.
Sandeep Nair is one of the main accused in the diplomatic gold smuggling case along with Swapna Suresh and PS Sarith. Sandeep, who was in COFEPOSA preventive detention for about a year and a half in the case, was released from jail in October 2021. Swapna and Sandeep, who were absconding in the diplomatic gold smuggling case, were arrested by the NIA investigation team from Bengaluru on July 11, 2020. Soon after, the investigation teams of Customs and Enforcement Directorate also recorded Sandeep's arrest. Sandeep Nair is the fourth accused in the NIA and Customs cases and the third accused in the ED case.
