PATHANAMTHITTA: A first-year graduate student and SFI unit joint secretary was allegedly assaulted by a group led by an SFI leader at Konni NSS College. The victim, Sonu Sunil, sustained injuries to his head and hands during the incident which occurred yesterday afternoon. Sonu reported that more than twenty individuals kicked him after throwing him to the ground, resulting in a torn ligament in his hand.

The assault reportedly stemmed from allegations that the junior student had shown disrespect toward his seniors. Sonu identified Firdous, the SFI unit secretary and a senior student, along with another senior named Abhiyan, as the primary assailants. According to the victim's statement, the group targeted him in a coordinated attack within the college premises.

Sonu’s complaint further alleges that ragging is a common occurrence at the institution. The victim's family has expressed strong grievances against the college authorities, claiming they failed to intervene or take any action. The college management reportedly stated they were unaware of the incident when questioned by the family.

The family has officially filed a complaint with the Pathanamthitta Superintendent of Police regarding the violence. Following the report, the police registered a formal case against Firdous and Abhiyan. Investigations into the group assault and the allegations of recurring ragging at the college are currently underway.
