PATHANAMTHITTA: Some migrant women were seen engaging in a drunken brawl in the middle of the city. The clash was witnessed at Kannamkara in Pathanamthitta last night. The women, who were drunk were attacking each other and disrupted transportation.

The incident happened in Kannamkara, a major area where the CPM district committee office is located. Locals allege that drunken fights are common during holidays here, where migrant workers live in large numbers. The conflict was previously between men, but now women are also causing problems in a similar way, which is worrying the locals.

When the conflict could not be controlled, the locals informed the Pathanamthitta police. The police who arrived at the scene arrested and removed them from the area. Drug use and subsequent conflicts are becoming a daily occurrence in the Kannamkara area. Locals said that they are often afraid to intervene and that strict police surveillance is needed in the area. Locals are also demanding special patrolling during holidays.
