THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Heavy rains may continue in the state for the coming three days. A red alert has been issued in five northern districts tomorrow and 11 districts on Monday. A red alert has been declared in Kannur, Kasaragod, Wayanad, Kozhikode and Malappuram districts tomorrow while all districts except Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam and Alappuzha will be on alert on Monday. Red alert will continue in Kannur and Kasaragod today. An orange alert is in place in 12 districts today.
Revenue Minister K Rajan has advised people to be vigilant in the wake of the heavy rain warning. The power distribution system in various parts of Thiruvananthapuram district was severely damaged due to strong winds and rain. KSEB said they will carry out wartime operations to restore the power supply promptly despite all the adverse conditions.
A special control room was set up in the Thiruvananthapuram Electrical Circle to receive complaints and information regarding power outages and potential hazards. The rain that lashed Thiruvananthapuram city on Friday inundated low-lying areas. The strong winds accompanying the rain also caused extensive damage in the city.
Sunil, a native of Kollam, was seriously injured when a tree branch fell on him near the Medical College Hospital. He is now undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit at the Medical College Hospital.
