Fake currency notes worth Rs 2.60 lakh seized in Kayamkulam; suspects that they are made in Pakistan, two held

KAYAMKULAM: Fake currency notes of Rs 500 were seized from a person who came to transfer money at SBI branch. In the further investigation, police found counterfeit notes of Rs 500 worth Rs 2.60 lakh, suspected to be made in Pakistan, from several persons. Kayamkulam police have arrested Sunil Dutt (54), a native of Krishnapuram and Anas (46), a resident of Choonad in the incident. It is reported that six people are in custody. Based on the information received from them, raids are ongoing in Kayamkulam, Alappuzha, Kozhikode and Mangaluru.

The place where the fake notes were made has not been clarified yet. If it is confirmed that the notes were made in Pakistan, then UAPA will be charged against the accused and the case will be handed over to NIA.

Sunil Dutt was first taken into custody while he arrived in bank for money transfer. 73 fake currency notes of Rs 500 were found. The branch informed the police and he revealed that Anas gave him the money. Then Anas was also arrested. Based on the information received from them, the police seized 520 counterfeit notes of Rs.500.

Sunil Dutt is a driver and Anas is a hotel owner. Sunil Dutt bought fake notes of Rs 500 worth Rs 50,000 from Anas by paying Rs 25,000. They have admitted that they have handed over fake notes to many people in Kayamkulam and surrounding areas. Kayamkulam DYSP Alex Baby and CI Muhammad Shafi are conducting the investigation.
