Student who was working as driver at Vizhinjam port not paid salary; intervention of Human Rights Commission

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Human Rights Commission's intervention in non-payment of salary to student who was working to support his family. The Human Rights Commission is all set to take action against a private travel firm that did not pay a graduate student who worked as a driver at Vizhinjam port at night.
Commission acting chairperson and judicial member K Baijunath demanded that the District Labor Officer conduct an inquiry against Sharath, the owner of Thycaud-based Highness Group Travels, and submit a report within two weeks.
The complainant is AS Abhijith, a native of Ottasekharamangalam. From April 10 to May 2, Abhijith was working for Highness Group Travels, a contract company that transported the officials of Vizhinjam Port from Thycaud Guest House to the port.
Abhijit is a third year undergraduate student of Vazhichal Emmanuel College. His father had already passed. Abhijit has a mother and a sister. In the complaint, Abhijit said that despite approaching the company several times for salary, there was no result. His salary is Rs 14,400. The case will be heard on August 5.
