THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After smart classrooms now anganawadis in the state have also become smart. The smart anganwadi has a lounge, study room, indoor and outdoor games, parent waiting area, teen meeting room, bathroom and wash basin suitable for children, book corner for reading and toy corner for playing.
Minister Veena George will inaugurate the first smart anganwadi in the state under the Women and Child Development Department at 10.30 am today at the Poojappura Social Justice Department Institution Complex. Minister V Sivankutty will preside over the function. Mayor Arya Rajendran will be the chief guest. Anganwadi No. 37 of Thiruvananthapuram Urban 2 ICDS Project is being dedicated to children today.
There are also games that emphasize on the mental and physical development of children. The Anganwadi with 20 children has a teacher and a helper. The building was constructed by the Construction Center on an area of 1655.23 square feet on ten cents of land. 44,94,518 was spent.
Other smart anganwadis are located in Edava, Veli, Vembayam, Ottoor, Vithura, Uzhamalakkal, Aruvithura, Aryanad and Vamanapuram panchayats. There are 155 smart anganwadis under construction across the state.
