ADIMALI: At 2 p.m., a sky dining capsule near Anachal town in Munnar lifted five people, including two children, to a height of 120 feet for an adventure dining experience. Tourists enjoyed the food along with the aerial view.

However, when it was time to bring them down, the hydraulic lever of the crane malfunctioned. The capsule could not be lowered, leading to hours of worry. Finally, the Fire and Rescue team arrived, and by around 5 p.m., each person was safely brought down using ropes. They had been trapped for nearly three hours.

Those stuck were Kozhikode Tiruthiyad natives Mohammed Safwan (31), his wife Taufina (25), their children Evan (6) and Inara (2), and sky dining staff member Haripriya (28). The sky dining setup uses a special capsule with seats and a dining table, which is lifted using a crane. The service is operated by Southern Skies Aero Dynamics.

Staff tried for almost half an hour to fix the issue but failed, after which they informed the Fire Force. There are allegations that poor quality of the hydraulic crane caused the malfunction.

Started two months ago

The sky dining service began at Anachal two months ago. The fee is Rs 1,000 per adult for a 30-minute session, while children can dine for free. Authorities have issued a stop memo to the establishment.
