THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM leader and former Devikulam MLA S Rajendran has accepted BJP membership from party chief Rajeev Chandrasekhar at the headquarters. CPI leader Gurunathan from Idukki and CPM worker Santhosh also accepted membership along with Rajendran.
Rajendran was suspended from the party for a year based on the complaint of trying to defeat A Raja, CPM candidate of Devikulam constituency in January 2022.The membership was not renewed even after the tenure of his suspension. Since then, there were speculations that Rajendran would leave the party. Rajendran had earlier met Rajeev Chandrasekhar in the capital city.
Meantime, Rajendran responded that there are no special conditions for joining the BJP. He said that he will not contest the elections and has no desire to contest. Rajendran added that he has received an assurance from the BJP president that he will intervene to resolve the issues in the high range and had not invited anyone to accompany him. ‘The trusted movement has not been cheated. No one was taken by force. Endured a lot, don’t harm me,’ he said. Rajendran, who was the face of the CPM in Munnar, was a three-time Devikulam MLA and party district committee member.
