THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Transport Minister K B Ganesh Kumar announced free services to cancer patients in the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) buses. The minister informed the assembly that cancer patients going for radiation and chemotherapy can travel for free on all KSRTC buses from Superfast onwards.

A decision will be taken by the KSRTC director board today itself and implement it. Patients going to private hospitals is also entitled for the free service. The minister criticized the opposition for disrupting the assembly proceedings during his announcement.

‘This will not be a big thing for the opposition. They said, ‘shame, shame’ when announced it. This might be a shame for the opposition but will be something big for the patients. ‘Since the order for 50 percent for city buses and ordinary buses was issued in 2012 by the UDF Government, they should not come and take credit for this announcement. This is an announcement applicable to the state. Not just for ordinary buses, this applies to all KSRTC buses from superfast onwards,’ the minister said.
