THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has taken an important decision on the differently-abled reservation and Kerala Teachers Eligibility Test (K-TET) over the appointment of teachers in aided schools. Education Minister V Sivankutty while addressing the media said the Supreme Court verdict on differently-abled reservation will be applicable to all managements and that the AG's legal advice has been received in this regard.
‘The ruling applicable to NSS will also apply to other managements. The cabinet convened decided to make teachers without K-TET permanent. They only need to obtain K-TET within two years. Not having K-TET affecting promotions will be avoided. The final decision will be as per the Supreme Court verdict,' said Sivankutty.
The state government has taken a crucial decision to make the Supreme Court order in favour of NSS in the differently-abled teacher reservation applicable to other managements as well. Many including Christian managements had stepped forward with strong protests against the strict stand taken by the government on the issue of differently-abled reservation. Following this, the government has come forward with a persuasion move.
If the order is issued, it is likely that the appointments of several teachers previously on hold will be approved. The order will be issued on the condition that the final decision is as per the Supreme Court verdict. In the NSS case, the Supreme Court had directed that teachers be regularized in other posts except those that should be reserved for the differently-abled.
