KOCHI: The Kerala High Court directed an investigation against former DGP Siby Mathews for revealing the identity of Suryanelli rape victim. K K Joshi, the investigating officer in the Suryanelli case, approached the high court demanding an investigation.
Some references were made in Siby Mathews book 'Nirbhayam' about the Suryanelli case. The reference was in a way that the victim could be identified. Joshi told the court that this was done with the aim of humiliating the victim, her parents and the area and to insult her in public. Joshi first complained to the police but no action was taken. He later approached the court.
The high court directed the Mannanthala police to consider the complaint against Siby Mathews and take action within seven days. Even though the victim’s name has not been mentioned in the book, all other details are there. Joshi's complaint said that this is an offense under IPC 228A. The high court annulled the action of the police chief, who rejected the complaint against Siby Mathews.
