THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Due to heavy rain and strong winds, a red alert has been declared, and all educational institutions in three districts will remain closed on Wednesday (October 22). The holiday has been declared in Palakkad, Idukki, Malappuram and Pathanamthitta districts. The order applies to all educational institutions, including professional colleges, in these districts.

In Palakkad district, where a red alert has been declared, the District Collector announced that all educational institutions, including professional colleges, will remain closed tomorrow. However, residential schools, colleges, and Navodaya Vidyalayas will function as usual.

In Idukki district, the District Collector had earlier declared a holiday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges. The holiday applies to schools, colleges, tuition centres, and madrasas as well.

As a precautionary measure, the Malappuram District Collector has also declared a holiday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges, on Wednesday (October 22). The holiday will also apply to anganwadis, madrasas, and tuition centres.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a high chance of very heavy rainfall today and tomorrow across the state. Today, an orange alert has been issued for Ernakulam, Idukki, Thrissur, Palakkad, and Malappuram, while a yellow alert is in place for the remaining districts.

A red alert has been issued for Idukki, Palakkad, and Malappuram districts for tomorrow. An orange alert is in place for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Wayanad, and Kozhikode districts, while a yellow alert has been announced for Kasaragod, Kannur, Kollam, and Thiruvananthapuram. Rain warnings have been issued for all districts today and tomorrow. The formation of two low-pressure areas over the Arabian Sea and the Bay of Bengal has increased the likelihood of very heavy rainfall across the state.
