KOCHI: The High Court’s order stopping toll collection at Paliyekkara has been a real blessing for KSRTC. Around 800 buses pass through Paliyekkara every day, and by not having to pay toll, KSRTC’s savings have reached nearly 90 lakhs.

Earlier, KSRTC used to pay a fixed monthly amount as toll at Paliyekkara. At first, this was Rs 1050 per bus per month, but recently it was sharply increased. Now, a bus has to pay Rs 7310 per month to pass through. By avoiding toll for 50 days, KSRTC managed to save around 90 lakhs.

Less than 20% of the buses that pass daily cross the toll gate more than once. If a bus passes more than once in a day, the toll is charged at half rate from the second entry onwards.
