THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: CPM State Secretary M.V. Govindan said that efforts to secure the release of Nimisha Priya, who is on death row in Yemen, will continue. He stated that the intervention made by Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar in connection with Nimisha Priya's release reflects both humanitarian values and secularism. Govindan was speaking to the media after meeting with Kanthapuram.
"Kanthapuram has now become a beloved religious leader for all of us. He is receiving appreciation from many quarters. Naturally, this has conveyed a message from Kerala that upholds human values and secular principles. He has presented this message to the world. He discussed the matter with religious scholars in Yemen. Subsequently, those scholars spoke with authorities, which led to the temporary postponement of the execution. Kanthapuram informed us that further discussions will continue," Govindan explained.
Nimisha Priya's execution was initially scheduled to take place today. However, due to the intervention of Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar, the Ministry of External Affairs, Governor R.V. Arlekar, and the Save Nimisha Priya International Action Council, the execution has been deferred. The Action Council announced the postponement yesterday afternoon, and it was later confirmed by both the Ministry of External Affairs and Kanthapuram A.P. Aboobacker Musliyar.
